Western Cape trails range from the accessible Cederberg to remote Tankwa dirt roads — some of the best off-road scenery in SA.
Notable Routes
Bainskloof Pass — Historic mountain pass. Gravel, narrow, spectacular. Can be slippery in winter. No 4x4 required but high clearance helps.
Swartberg Pass — One of the finest mountain passes in SA. World Heritage pass road. Serious high-clearance recommended. Stunning.
Cederberg — Wupperthal Route — Long dirt road through the Cederberg to the mission village. Remote. Fuel up in Ceres.
Tankwa Karoo Roads — Everything in the Tankwa is gravel and remote. Flat tyres are common. Bring spares. Extraordinary landscapes.
Tradouw Pass — Barrydale area. Less known, beautiful.
