Top Spots
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park — One of Africa's greatest wildlife experiences. Red dunes, black-maned lions, raptors. Twee Rivieren, Mata Mata, Nossob camps. Book a year ahead minimum.
Augrabies Falls National Park — Orange River, granite gorge, massive waterfall. Camping at the main camp is excellent. Night drives for leopard.
Namaqualand (Goegap Nature Reserve) — For the flower season (Aug–Sep). Daisy fields as far as the eye can see. Worth the long drive.
Richtersveld Transfrontier Park — Remote, rugged, serious 4x4 required. Orange River valley. One of the most extreme landscapes in SA.
Witsand Nature Reserve — Near Postmasburg. "The roaring sands" — a dune system that hums. Excellent birding. Very quiet.
