MaxTrax recovery boards 2-year review — are they worth R4,400 in South Africa?
48 months of ownership, 28 proper off-road trips ranging from day runs to 7-day expeditions. Here is my honest, no-BS review.
Bought from Drifta 4x4 Accessories online for R4,400. Fitting took a full Saturday in the driveway with my brother.
Performance: I have used them ${rnd(3,12)} times in real recoveries — soft sand, wet clay, and once bridging a steep-sided drainage channel. They work exactly as advertised. The claim that cheaper alternatives perform the same is not true in my experience.
Compared to TRED Pro: I considered the alternative before buying. The price difference was around R2271. Based on what I have seen from other owners in this community, I think I made the right call — though I acknowledge I have not used the other one personally.
Would I buy again: Without hesitation. Rating: 9/10.
Any specific questions — happy to help. I remember how hard it was to find honest owner reviews before I bought, so I try to pay it forward.

Does it work with the Rhino Rack system? That is my concern before buying — fitment compatibility. Did you need any adapters?

Rating seems fair. My only addition is that the warranty process for this brand is where they really differentiate themselves from cheaper alternatives.

The point about fitting time is important. I budgeted a day and it took almost exactly that. Worth planning properly rather than rushing it the day before a trip.

Good review. I have had the same roof rack for 39 months and the experience matches yours — quality is exactly what you pay for.
